One hundred years ago, the campus you know today began with just two academic buildings.

Western officially unveiled this “new campus” in the fall of 1924: the iconic University College (pictured here) and what is now the Physics and Astronomy Building, both known as the “Arts buildings” at the time.

Founded in 1878 and originally situated in downtown London, Western acquired the current campus from the Kingsmill family in 1916, setting the stage for this transformation. The first graduating class from the new campus in spring 1925 made it official, marking the start of a dynamic new chapter in Western’s history. ●
